About

Selling a business is one of the most important transactions of most people’s lives. The more knowledge a business owner has about what’s involved with selling a business the higher the probability of success they will likely have with this complex and nuanced process. It is to this end that I started this blog to share ideas, information, and insights with owners of businesses who are planning for a successful exit. The most important piece of advice I can give is to employ a knowledgeable business broker or investment banker to assist with the process. There are significant variations in quality of representation – so choose wisely.

My company, Codiligent, primarily represents business owners in Oregon and the pacific northwest whose companies have $500k – $20 million in annual revenue. However, representation will be considered for businesses in other parts of the US (Codiligent has a history of successful representation as far away as the Washington DC area).

I welcome calls or emails from business owners who are thinking of selling their businesses whether a month in advance of wanting to start the sales process or five years in advance. Initiating discussions at least a year or two in advance can be beneficial in determining what types of changes to make to the business to increase its marketability and value. There is no cost for an initial consultation.

Codiligent takes a very rigorous approach to representation. We utilize proven proprietary systems, tools, and techniques that have been developed based on research in behavioral economics, negotiation strategies and tactics, marketing message development methodology, and sound principals of corporate finance. My goal is to make the difficult process of buying and selling businesses as easy as possible while maximizing the likelihood of an optimal outcome. Codiligent’s approach is based on the recognition that all clients are unique and deserve a customized and comprehensive approach to representation. Rather than striving to provide merely adequate representation to many clients, Codiligent pursues a business model based on providing outstanding service and representation to a limited number of clients to ensure that each client receives the time and energy necessary to achieve the highest probability of a successful outcome.

If you would like to discuss your business exit plan and the business sale process I would welcome your call or email.

Sincerely,

Eric Williams
